2018 Idlewild Nebbiolo Lost Hills Ranch - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (2/16/2023)
Pop and pour, as it was a last minute selection, but that did not seem to matter, as the wine was quite open from the first sniff/sip. Lots of bright red fruit here, as well as floral aromas, and some warm herbal notes. Seemed more forward that the Fox Hills Nebbiolo bottling, feeling more California, but still with Nebbiolo character. Light to medium bodied, which aligned with the translucent garnet color. Tannins were clearly present but not out of scale to the fruit. The finish had a lovely haunting floral note that was not quite roses, but I didn't know what else to call it. Pretty flower sums it up. Plenty of fruit here to see how this wine develops over the next few years, though I really like where it is now.
