With feta-brined roast chicken over arugula with potatoes
1996 Kalin Cuvee W Chardonnay (Livermore)
The night before John mentioned that Terry Leighton had passed away, so opened a bottle to toast him, Deep dark gold, but actually quite fresh. Lively acids, apple pie with cinnamon, there is a butterscotchy note that hints at oxidation. Fun to try, the Kalin wines are like no others. B/B+
2021 Coudert/Clos de la Roilette Fleurie
Lighter fruited and more restrained than some recent vintages (I always like this, just in different ways). Bright red and black cherry, cocoa, violets. Some grippy tannin, drinks well but this can last. B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
