2001 Darting Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Pfalz (2/8/2023)
Two more years after my last bottle where I noted tropical fruit, spice, honey and apricot, they are joined by a touch of tea, so perhaps it’s moving along in its curve of maturity after being held in stasis for over ten years. Still vibrant, and there’s no caramelized or dried notes, just seems like it might be getting close to drink up time for this ridiculous value ($15) from the best German Riesling vintage in my buying lifetime.
