Cusumano Shamaris Grillo Tenuta MontePietroso DOC: Sicilia (12.5%; EB; www.Cusumano.It; TerlatoWines/LakeBluff/IL) Partinico 2021: Light gold color; quite fragrant floral/carnations/Grillo some stony/flinty/mineral almost R-like aromatics really lovely nose; quite tart/tangy/flinty fairly strong floral/carnations/Grillo fairly stony/mineral bit rustic rather lush bit complex flavor; very long rather strong flortal/carnations/Grillo bitearthy/flinty/slight rustic finish; quite a fragrant/perfumed wine for Sicilian w/o the rustic/coarse character they often show; almost a R in aromatics; quite a nice white for the price. $21.50 (KK)

Neyers Cuvee d'Honneur Syrah SonomaCoast (14.1%; www.NeyersVineyards.com) St.Helena 2012: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; beautiful c-c/black pepper very smokey/Rhonish/roasted meats/espresso strong peppery/Blackberry/Syrah strong Carneros/black olive tapenade quite complex bit toasty/oak nose; quite tart/tangy/slight metallic very strong Carneros/black olive tapenade strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah rather c-c/black pepper some toasty/oak rather Rhonish/roasted/smoked meats/espresso rather w-c/peppery quite complex beautiful flavor w/ modest tangy tannins; very long/lingering strong Rhonish/w-c/peppery/roasted/smoked meats quite complex finish w/ modest tannins; a beautiful expression of c-c/w-c/very Rhonish Calif Syrah; probably nearing peak maturity but should go another 3-6 yrs. $48.00
