We tasted the other week at Pig+Fig some Carlisle Mourvedres:
1. Carlisle Mourvedre BedrockVnyd/SonomaVlly (14.2%; Planted in 1888; 110 cs; U/U) 2011: Med.color w/ slight bricking; strong plummy/Mourv/licorice some toasty/oak/pencilly slight peppery fairly complex nose; bit soft strong toasty/oak some Mourv/plummy/licorice bit complex flavor w/ light tannins; very long strong plummy/Mourv/licorice some toasty/oak bit complex finish w/ slight drying tannins; a slight soupy character & probably not going to get any better, but a lovely fully-mature Mourv. $40.00

Carlisle Mourvedre BedrockVnyd/SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (14.9%; Plntd in 1888; 110 cs) 2012: Med.dark color w/ some bricking somewhat more subtle/quieter some plummy/Mourv/licorice bit complex nose; bit softer smoother less intense Mourv/plummy/licorice light toasty/oak bit subtle/quiet bit complex flavor w/ light soft tannins; much like the '11 but a bit quieter/subtle & starting to fade a bit; a nice Mourv but should be drunk up. $39.50

Carlisle Mourvedre BedrockVnyd/SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (14.3%; Plntd: 1888; 90 cs) 2014: Very dark color w/ little bricking; rather strong Mourv/plummy/licorice bit peppery modest toasty/oak fairly rich/lush quite fresh bit complex nose; lightly tart/tangy fairly rich/lush strong Mourv/plummy/licorice slight peppery light toasty/oak flavor w/ modest tangy tannins; pretty close to mature and should go another 3-5 yrs; quite a lovely expression of Mourv. $37.25

Carlisle Mourvedre BedrockVnyd/SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (14.3%; Plntd: 1888; 85 cs) 2017: Very dark color w/ no bricking; intense plummy/Mourv/spicy/strong licorice some toasty/oak rather peppery/SonomaVlly/black pepper quite youthful lovely nose; fairly tart/tangy strong plummy/Mourv/licorice/blackberry some peppery/SV/spicy flavor w/ modest tangy tannins; a fairly strong/youthful expression of Mourv that can use another 3-6 yrs. $34.00

1. I liked all of these Mourvs & didn't feel any of them were about to go round the bend. All very good Carlisle expressions of Mourv. Not strongly speaking of Bedrock terroir that I could identify other than some of that SonomaVlly/peppery character you find more strong in the Zins. I liked these much more than the Mataro from ContraCostaCnty.
