RIP Dick Bueker

David's father, who was also active here at one time, passed away yesterday. He loved California wines and, IIRC, bourbon (a quick search suggests that Old Forester was a favorite). If you can, raise a glass to honor an old friend and bring comfort to his son and our friend.

Thank you.

His favorite wine was whatever red was in his glass, though he loved Montelena, Kosta-Browne, Loring, Lopez de Heredia and a good glass of Ruchè. Diverse palate!

Thanks Steve (and everyone!).

He was going to be 80 this coming April. His health had been shaky for the last several years, though only truly bad since last summer.

There’s a bottle of wine that was waiting for his 80th, and I will still open it that day. Thankfully we at least shared innumerable special bottles over the last 30 years.

So sorry to hear this, Dave. I'll open a bottle of Montelena Estate cab for a proper toast to him.

I don't have the kind of wines that were Dick's preference so couldn't honor him that way, so Next Best Thing for a proper toast was a zinfandel from David's favorite vineyard, Evangelho.

He was a big fan of Lopez de Heredia.

That said I am opening another Cal Cab tonight with friends.
