by TomHill » Wed Jan 25, 2023 3:51 pm

Tried these two last night w/ DaveJones & Larry:
1. Dom.Baud Generation 9 AC: Ch.Chalon Vin Jaune (14.5%; 100% Savagnin; www.DomaineBaud.Fr; GrapeExpectations/Richmond/CA) LeVernois 2013: Med.gold color; strong flor yeast/fino sherry some earthy/lightly floral/Sauvignin/marigolds/pungent some oxidative/nutty/bit wet wool somewhat austere nose; rather tart/tangy quite austere/totally dry bit tannic strong flor yeast some oxidative/nutty not at all alcoholic some earthy/floral/pungent/marigolds rather complex austere flavor w/ light tannins; very long/lingering totally dry/austere some flor yeast/fino sherry bit oxidative complex finish w/ light tannins; some like an earthy fino sherry but not as strident/high-toned; bit pricey at $63.00 (SFW&S)

2. Vigne Rada Arsenale DOC: Alghero Cagnulari RW (14%; www.VigneRada.com; KermitLynch/Berkeley) 2016: Very dark color; strong blackberry/boysenberry/rather Syrah-like light toasty/oak slight peppery fairly complex nose; lightly tart fairly rich/lush some smooth/polished/balanced strong spicy/blackberry/Syrah-like light toasty/oak lovely complex flavor w/ modest ripe tannins; very long/linger smooth/polished strong blackberry/Syrah-like/peppery light toasty/oak complex finish w/ modest ripe tannins; a lovely fairly smooth developed/complex red that should go another 2-5 yrs; quite a beautiful red that is very polished & not the rustic character of many Sicilian reds; very well-priced at $35.00 (KL)

More baudyromp from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Cagnulari is an indigenous Sicilian grape that is closely related to Graciano. We had the '18 several weeks ago & I was mightly impressed by it. They still had the '16 @ KermitLynch, so thought I'd give it a try. It is even more impressive because it shows some complexity & evolution.

2. Ch.Chalone is an oxidized wine made from Sauvignan grape in the Jura. They do not top up the barrels so a flor yeast veil develops atop the wine. It's not a very fun wine to taste on its own, but w/ the cheese course, it was much better.
