I really enjoy these wines and have consistently found that I like the 97 more than the 98.

This has lightened a bit over the years and shows clear edges. The nose is fairly complex with elements of forest floor, plummy fruit, some black pepper, and with time (no pun intended) some herbal notes appear, and yes, it is primarily thyme! This wine is very good and is slowly ageing gracefully. Prime time now but will hold a few years yet. Good length. Interestingly I have seen notes that find it to be further along in development, which I attribute to my cellar conditions being cool and stable. YMMV if your source is more recent or less consistent.

Over the years I have found that as much as I like other appellations in that area including the granddaddy CdP, I lean more toward Gigondas than any of the other. There's something about grenache that just delights me. Of course, I only recently figured that out and it's too late to go back and change my collecting habits. Sounds great.
