This property has produced some very nice wines, but I would not predict success at this age for many 1995 Chateauneufs except the really good select few (I own several 95s that are still going strong - Beaucastel, Sabon, Cailloux, Vieux Telegraphe, Donjon etc.) but I came across a singleton bottle of the Janasse while searching for something else and wasn't at all sure it would still be sound as it had showed signs of age when I last tasted it around five years ago..
I opened it and took a look at a small sample in the glass....and it looked like a Rose, paler than even a fairly old Burgundy. Darker when I topped it off a bit, the wine had an interesting bit not spoiled nose of simple musty documents - old books for instance.
I set it aside and kept going back to it and after 20 minutes or so (I've had very old wines - almost a century old - peak and die within 30 minutes so no long airing) it started to open up and showed a pretty decent nose, delicate and a little muted plum and spice showing. It was smooth but understated on palate and was clearly near the end of life, but it still offered enough flavour interest that I served it with the Friday night steak and it stood up very decently.
If you have this get into it as soon as possible, as it is clearly only one bust stop away from senescence, but if you are lucky, your bottle may also be decent.
