2006 Dönnhoff Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (1/4/2023)I missed the 1989 vintage on release, as I came to German wines a few years later. Wines like this 2006 have given me a second chance, as now in the midlife they are expressing some of the same virtues. The combination of sustained primary fruit and the complexity of a dash of botrytis makes for something akin to a 1980s gold capsule Auslese, as the extra ripeness of climate change kicks in. I suspect that it will head further into a botrytis dominated phase soon, so drink up unless you like that dried orange/honey/spice.

that sounds good (aka balanced). I have one 06 Kirschneck Spat left, last bottle left me unimpressed, seemed all about the 06ness. Glad the Hermannshohle threaded the needle better.

Kirschheck is always a little softer and a bit richer. That's not a great mix with 2006.
