2021 Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch (Erben-Thanisch) Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett Cuvée Christina - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/29/2022)
Pretty good on pop and pour, but this needed ninety minutes of air to show more. It felt like a trip in Mr. Peabody’s Wayback Machine, as the aromas and flavors were more in an early 1990s mode than the modern, climate-affected tropical fruit salad. Laura and I both tried it, and came to the same conclusion of freshly cut, ripe, crisp apple. It’s been years since I tasted a Riesling from the heat-trap of Bernkastel with this level precision and focus. The only area where it fell a little short was overall depth. There wasn’t a lot of palate presence. That could come with time, but right now it’s a refreshing blast from the past.

So are you as bullish on the freshness of 2021 in MSR/Germany as others seem to be?

After spending 12 months drinking pretty much nothing but German Riesling and Spätburgunder, I've been more tempted by my French white wine loves since returning to the US. So I haven't had much 2021 riesling. Maybe the only one was 2021 Lauer Stirn, which was delicious but a bit tight and stern and probably better in the future. But, I hear such good things about 2021, I'm sure I would like it..

I have only had a couple of bottles so far, but I do like them. They are really a throwback, which is fun, but while tasty I don’t see the breathless hype that some (Fass, Dentice) are throwing at them. For some reason acidity has become the only thing that matters for some people. I am not one of them.

Not sure how many Finger Lake fans we have here but count me in for Riesling and Cab Franc.
Jamie Goode has this new feature on his blog>>>>https://wineanorak.com/2022/12/29/finger-lakes-riesling-a-brief-study-on-these-wines-from-this-celebrated-new-york-state-wine-region/

You guys on the east coast should have some good access?

Actually no. Distribution of FL wines is very poor.
