WTN: Three At DinDin....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Dec 19, 2022 4:57 pm

Tried these three last night at DinDin:
1. Suriol Cal Ron Garnatxa Blanca Orange Wine Dd'O: Turons de Vilafranca/Penedes (11.5%; 5 days on the skins in Amfores & Castanyer; Jenny&Francois Slctns/NY; Natural wine) Cellars de Can Suriol/Castel de Grabuac/Spain 2020: Med.yellw quite hazy color; strong resiny/VM/phenolic rather floral/honeysuckle/GB/carnations fairly fragrant bit complex nose; bit soft/lush strong very resiny/VM/phenolic some GB/honeysuckle/floral/carnations somewhat astringent/bitter bit apple/pear bit complex flavor w/ some tannins; med.long quite resiny/phenolic/VM saline some GB/floral/carnations/honeysuckle finish w/ light tannins; lots of resiny/VM character (especially for only 5 days) & badly needs food; not fun to taste on its own; should be pretty interesting in 5 yrs, though. $25.00 (SFW&S)

2. LauraLorenzo Azo s do Pobo VinoTinto Natural Wine(12%; 50% Gran Negro/Garnacha Tintorera+Mouraton/Mencia/Merenzao; #433 of 1149; JosePastor/LLaurador/Tiburon/CA) Laaura Lorenzo/Galiza/Espana 2016: Ned.dark color w/ slight bricking; lightly grapey/earthy/dusty/loamy slightly tired bit Grenache-like somewhat rustic; lightly tart grapey/earthy/loamy bit old/tired/Grenache rather rustic flavor w/ light tired tannins; med.long rather tired old Spanish red fairly earthy/loamy finish w/ light tannins; just a rather old/tired Spanish red w/ not much of interest; tastes like an old/tired Rioja w/o the oak; not very thrilling.
$40.00 (KK)

3. Tschida Angerhof Beerenauslese Chard Burgenland (9.5%; EB; Winemonger/SanAnselmo/CA) Illmitz/Burgenland 2013: Med.gold color; intense honeyed/ripe peach/honeycomb bit botrytis/peach/apricotty slightly volatile beautiful/complex nose; bit soft quite sweet very lush/ripe intense honeycomb/honeyed/ripe peach bit botrytis/apricotty slight melony/Chard very ripe quite complex beautiful flavor; very long/lingering intense honeycomb/honeyed some botrytis/apricotty quite sweet finish; not intensely botrytis & somewhat passito/late hrvst like but beautiful honeycomb wine & a steal at this price; midway between a botrytis BA & a late hrvst Chard; beautiful wine that should age at least 10 yrs. $26.00/hlf (WM)

More fichtersplatter from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. LauraLorenzo: This was a wine from the LLaurador Slctns of JosePastor, the arm that specializes in natural wines. Generally I find his wines some of the worst/natty of the JosePastor wines. This was just a tired old Spanish red but at least it did not show the usually unclean/natty charactor those wines usually show.

2. Tschida: I just got in 2 cases from Winemonger Imprts & I tossed in this BA Chard to fill out the case. It's an amazing steal at this price.
I week ago this was a short article in the NYTimes, I believe, where some food celebrity like JuliaChild or MarthaStewart, people who I worship, labeled the TraderJoe's French Apple Tart as the best Christmastime dessert you can find at TJ's. So, being putty in those celebrities hands, I sprung for one this weekend to share w/ Susan. It is good....quite good...w/ loads of apple character (one would hope so), but nothing all that remarkable I thought. But this BA went wonderfully w/ the leftover Apple Tart topped w/ Salvadorean Crema.
