2020 Weingut Hermann Ludes Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Spätlese trocken - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/10/2022)
Sipped on this during the England-France World Cup match. It did not change much over the course of two hours, but I am leaving half the bottle for tomorrow. It's certainly dry, as opposed to being on the off-dry end of the trocken scale. Tart citrus and white peach fruit dominate in the aromatics. It has a touch of bitterness on the palate that accentuates the dryness of the wine, but then also a sort of artificial note - diet Sprite-esque that is a little off-putting. Hopefully a day of air (or years of cellaring) can mute that element in an otherwise appealing wine.

I had a couple of bottles of this earlier in the year and thought it was great. Lovely balance between racy but also juicy and not too austere as some MSR trocken can be/used to be.

I didn't get any artificial notes, but there was a vibrant vivid herbal lime flavor to all the Ludes wines I had, and I could see that veering into 'artificial' territory, if grumpy/awkward/heat damaged/etc etc. Hopefully future bottles/glasses show better.

I suspect just grumpy. I have one more, and will let it rest a while longer.
