2021 Massican Idlewild - USA, California, Napa Valley (11/4/2022)
Catching up on a note or two from the weekend, this was a lovely accompaniment to an unseasonably warm November day. We went with some sweet potato, spinach and goat cheese quesadillas for dinner, and this fit the bill. Immediate aromatics were white peach and lime, and freshly cut hay note crept in after a little air time. Fresh as a daisy given its recent release, this stayed juicy and bright all through. Felt riper than some of the Massican wines, but still leaned more European, just with a large dose of sunshine. Given that it's a collaboration from two of my favorite winemakers (Sam Bilbro and Dan Petroski) I kept trying to pick out specific signs of influence, but since they both work with such freshly styled white wines it was more about the grapes themselves rather than the humans behind them. As it should be! Will have to save my other bottles for next spring and summer. This will be delicious as the days get longer. A blend of Tocai, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Malvasia.

Love the sound of that.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
