TN: Two Natural Whites...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Oct 31, 2022 3:55 pm

Tried these two new natural wines in at Kokomans this weekend:
1. Naken Biokult Burgenland dry (11%; Frmtd on skins several days; 90% PinotGris/10% Muskateller; BioDynamic; www.BiokultWine.com; Natural Merchants/GrantsPass/OR) Pamhagen/Burgenland 2020:Med.gold color w/ tons of frothy bubbles; quite high VA very slight floral/PG rather natty/unclean/some mousey some yeasty unattractive nose; very frizzante rather fumey/hot bit earthy very slight PG/floral some natty/mousey slight oxidized flavor; med.short fizzy/soda pop some mousey/natty/unclean slight floral finish w/ lots of oxidative/wet dog fur in the aftertaste; shows all the problems of many natural wines; offers up no pleasure at all.
$17.00 (KK)

2. Sfera Bianco I Clivi (11.5%; 100% RibollaGialla; L001.2021; PortoVinoImprts/Buffalo/NY) Mario Zanussa/I Clivi/Corno di Rosazzo NV (2020?): Med.yellow color; lightly floral/RG/bit peppery fairly clean some earthy/mineral saline/grapefruity rather pleasant nose; quite tart/tangy rather mineral/RG/peppery/bit metallic rather lean/austere flavor; med.tart/tangy bit austere/RG/peppery some earthy/metallic/saline finish; a pleasant enough RG but nothing particularly distinctive; I should count my blessings as at least it's clean. $22.50/liter (KK)

More biofross from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Biokult: My first experience w/ this Burgenland producer, which is a cooperative of a bunch or organic/biodynamic growers in the Burgenland area. The importer describes this wine as "This deliciously funky natural wine could be the best "beer lovers wine" in our portfolio." Hardly what I would call a ringing endorsement for this wine.

2. Sfera is the natural wine arm of the I Clivi wnry in Friuli. I find the I Clivi wines are solid/interesting expressions of Friulian varietals. This Sfera was just rather undistinguished.
