WTN: Three New Ridge ATP Wines...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Oct 31, 2022 3:00 pm

My latest Ridge ATPs arrived, so wasted no time cracking those suckers:
1. Ridge Zin Boatman Graveyard AlexVlly/SonomaCnty (100% Zin; 14.9%; 8 brls; bttld Mar 2021;
Drk: 2/21-2/26: JO; tartaric acid) 2019
: Med.dark color; pleasant raspberry/blackberry/Zin/lightly spicy classic AlexVlly/plummy some vanilla/RidgeOak slight licorice/peppery attractive nose; lightly tart some blackberry/raspberry/Zin bit AV/plummy slight peppery some vanilla/Am.oak bit dusty/OV flavor w/ modest chewey tannins; long strong plummy/blackberry/Zin/spicy some vanilla/oak slight dusty/OV finish w/ light chewey tannins; a fairly typical Ridge Zin but not particularly distinctive and one step above the EastBench; an attractive Ridge Zin but just that. $37.00 (ATP)
______________
2. Ridge Zin BenitoDusi DusiRanch/PasoRobles (100% Zin; 14.8%; 59 brls; bttld 12/21; Drk: 11/21-11/26: JO) 2020: Dark color; strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe slight licorice/PR jammy rather attractive PR Zin nose; bit soft rather rich/lush strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe bit chocolaty/licorice/plummy slight dusty/OV very light Am.oak/vanilla bit simple classic PR Zin flavor w/ modest chewey tannins; very long bit soft strong blackberry/boysenberry/Zin/spicy slight plummy/licorice balanced/structured light vanilla/RidgeOak finish w/ modest tannins; pretty classic PR Zin w/ lots of blackberry Zin fruit but not particularly overripe/jammy & has some structure; can use several yrs; one of the better Ridge Dusi Zins. $37.00 (ATP)
_______________
3. Ridge Mataro Gonsalves ContraCostaCnty (14.0%; 54 brls; bttld April 2021; Century old vines; Drk: 1/21-1/31: EB) 2019: Med.dark color; strong earthy/mushroomy/ContraCosta rather plummy/Mataro/ripe/bit licorice fairly strong Ridge oak/vanilla attractive nose; rather soft strong plummy/CC Mataro/licorice rather dusty/OV rather earthy/mushroomy/CC fairly strong vanilla/Am.oak flavor w/ light ripe/soft tannins; fairly long soft plummy/CC Mataro some earthy/mushroomy finish w/ light ripe tannins; a rather earthy/mushroomy/CC Mataro but lacks the structure to go out 10 yrs I think; not a particularly interesting/distinctive Mataro. $37.00 (ATP)

More tikkerfot from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. The Graveyard is a new Ridge ATP wine, a tiny amount (for Ridge). It's from an upperblock on the Boatman Vnyd known as Graveyard, where Ridge buries the bodies of wine critics who don't like their wines. I went heavy on this Graveyard to pass out to the trick-or-treaters tonight. They will probably be disappointed, too.
So from this latest ATP, I've yet to try the Mazzoni HomeRanch. At this point, my thoughts are "why bother", given the underachieving wines that come from the Mazzoni vnyd.
