Lots of wines. In some cases, my notes failed to get a vintage, or some other detail right or I didn't even get my hands on the bottle to take notes. I recall an Argentinian white bubble attributed to Rothschild ownership with a handsome label and overly rich, indelicate contents with big, crude bubbles. Far, far better was a Franck Besson Dentelle BdN style full of white cherries and fresh baked pastry, but I didn't catch a vintage. And I wrote down 2019 Anita Fleurie but didn't describe it. C'est la vie. Here's what I did capture, in reverse order of service:
2010 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Griffe du Marquis Gamay
Tim's. Great to retaste this outstanding wine in its later years (we went thru 8 bottles drinking the last one in 2019, so irresistable). Less fruit now and more earth but flawless, aging well, OFS.
2016 Domaine Blain Soeur et Frére Côte de Brouilly Les Jumeaux Gamay
Mine. 1st of 4 bottles purchased. Grippy tannins surround red berries, rhubarb and bay leaf. Elegant but structured, built to last.
2020 Domaine de la Saraziniére Mâcon-Serrières La Pépie Gamay
Fresh simple fruit with some vinegarry phenolics. Not a fan.
2009 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Moulin-à-Vent Gamay
After reading other positive TNs on this, have to put it down as flawed. Very dark with asphalt and vinegar notes that don't belong here.
2020 Domaine Sérol Côte Roannaise Les Blondins Gamay Saint Romain, Gamay
Seductive, loads of minerals. I would buy this.
2021 J. Lohr Valdiguié Wildflower Monterey
Light color and body with vinegar notes. I've had Lohr Valdigues before and they were never anything like this (darker, more robust).
2021 Division Winemaking Company Gamay Noir Division-Villages, "Les Petits Fers" Oregon
It's great to taste with people younger than you because they say things like "this is the Gothiest Beaujolais I've ever tasted." Describes it better than all my stuffy descriptors could have. Purple fruit, some vinegar, grippy tannins. A wine to approach with curiosity and suspicion.
2018 Guillaume Chanudet Moulin-à-Vent Les Petits Bois Gamay
Tim's. Good fruit, pleasant everyday style, ripe like the vintage but not overtly so.
2015 Domaine Mee Godard Morgon Corcelette Gamay
Mine. 3rd of six bottles purchased and I am so happy it's finally coming around. Deep maroon fruit and spice with substantial, but not oppressive, tannins. Before the reveal, I was accused of bringing a serious burgundy ringer. Good now but guaranteed to reward further aging.
2015 Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent La Roche Château des Jacques Gamay
Vic's. Very dark, flavors closer to asphalt than fruit. Couldn't pin a known flaw on it but it came across more like syrah than bojo, and not a good one at that.
2010 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py Gamay
Erik's. To quote friend WT from a few months back, "Foillard struck gold in '10. Structured, great tension, crowd pleasing fruit." Got an A+ from me.
2018 Domaine de l’Epicurieux Régnié Chacha Gamay
Connie's. This winery is a young couple just learning the ropes. Raw flavors, lightly spritzed. C-.
1997 Domaine J. Chamonard Morgon Le Clos de Lys Gamay
3rd of 3 bottles purchased. First two were cloudy and swampy so I had low expectations for this one, but this bottle was perfect. Very pale burnished red. Full tertiary, all potpourri and tea notes with a long finish, delicate and magical in its maturity.
2018 Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun) Beaujolais Classique Chardonnay
Ted's. Welcoming and brighter than the Dupeuble with yellow fruit and clover. Briney and refreshing. h.
2021 Domaine Dupeuble Pere et Fils Beaujolais Blanc Chardonnay
Shy entry but gets richer toward the finish with apple and ripe pear notes. Feels like it's missing something, though.
2021 Domaine Les Capréoles Gamay Cossinelle Vin de France
Tim's. Rose petals, yellow peaches, wet forest bark, crisp, dry, perfectly balanced. As perfect a Bojo rose as one can ask for.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
