WTN: Trimbach Riesling 390ème Anniversaire

by David M. Bueker » Mon Oct 24, 2022 7:30 pm

2016 Trimbach Riesling 390ème Anniversaire - France, Alsace (10/24/2022)
Pop and pour, so it took a good hour to open up. When it did there was not only a classic Riesling aromatic and flavor profile, but also a foundation, carved of stone, anchored in the bones of the earth. The profile of the fruit was classic Trimbach, with a bit more flesh brought on by the inevitability warmer vintages. The star was the stone. It lingered on the finish, a monument to the rock.

I liked this, though global warming shows. I did find it peculiar they decided to do a 390th ,but not to make it a CFE.

From a Zoom call I was on with Jean Trimbach last year, it's not just from the normal CFE vineyard sources.

Was very surprised to see this at Costco today, for $US46. Guess I had not appreciated that the CFE is a negociant wine (in a sense) while the CSH is obviously a single vineyard. Will give it a try. We don’t get much Trimbach out here, maybe the base riesling.

Regular CFE is not a negotiant wine. They own the vineyard parcels that produce the grapes for CFE.

The 390th anniversary wine was a different blend of again owned site grapes, not the usual CFE combination. Trimbach has acquired quite a few additional plots in famous vineyards over the last two decades.

Amazing. I had such a different experience. Some fruit, an elegant wine, little stone, not particularly aromatic. Normally with whites I have the first glass at cellar temperature and chill the rest slightly, but in this case I left it to warm in the hope that more would come out, but no such luck. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, finished the bottle, but for US$40 it was disappointing. Well, that's why we open the bottles!
