WTN: New to me, Diego Conterno, Pierre Baillette

by Rahsaan » Sun Oct 23, 2022 8:49 pm

A friend brought over a bottle (already decanted) of 2016 Diego Conterno Barolo. Perfectly prepared, firm ripe layered and giving of perfumed pleasure. Barolo for people like me, those who do not appreciate gobs AND who do not have decades-old bottles in the cellar.

The day before it was my first time with NV Pierre Baillette Le Mont Ferré BdB Extra Brut, and it hit all the notes. Good dose of fruit and nicely generous, but nice detail and precision, restrained yet vivid, even better the next day. As always, drink more Champagne (including Baillette).

Never heard of either, but both sound like would be rewarding to try.

Diego Conterno is no relation to Giacomo/Giovanni/Roberto. It was just the one bottle but could be the right style for me.

Pierre Baillette is new and small but with good bona fides, the owner/winemaker Périne is married to Alexandre Chartogne of Chartogne-Taillet. Also very promising for me.
