Johnson Estate Winery-E-mail, Traminette

by Ed Draves » Wed Feb 28, 2007 7:20 am

Dear Valued Customer,

Johnson Estate Winery is proud to introduce its newest dry white wine Traminette. With a scheduled release date of Friday March 2nd, this wine displays pronounced floral spice aromas followed by flavors of citrus and lime zest. With only 57 cases produced, this limited edition wine is sure to sell quickly. You can purchase your bottle for only $11.99 in the winery, over the phone (1800-DRINK-NY), or on our website (http://www.johnsonwinery.com). So pick up your bottle today, but don't forget add to a group of twelve 750ML bottles to create a case discount.

Thank you,

Johnson Estate winery

As most know, I am not affiliated with the winery other than selling the wine retail (I do not carry the Traminette at this time).

With the exception of their '06 Foch Nouveau, I've enjoyed every wine I've had from Johnson Estate. I'll pick up some of this, as Traminette, a dry one no less, interests me, since I have about a dozen vines going in my yard.

Howie,
Out of curiosity, what about the Nouveau did you not like?

From a "catch-up" post last month:
Tasting Notes over the past 2 months or so
’06 Johnson Estate Foch Nouveau – This was opened with Thanksgiving dinner, but was quite a disappointment – thin and acidic, closed – did not do anything for the dinner.

Thanks Howie, I wonder if yours was mildly corked as mine had some nice fruit. Could it have fallen apart in the month between my tasting it and Thanksgiving?

Ed, many thanks for this post.

I have been following Traminette with interest since I first "discovered" it on the web several years ago - there is none in Ontario yet.

I heartily applaud Johnson Estate for making it dry. Let's move our wines in that direction and craft highly food-friendly, crisp whites (and reds too for that matter). I'm positive that as time goes on and more winemakers catch on to the quality wave, there will be less need to balance unripe acidity with residual sugar - a physiologically mature grape really can make a balanced dry wine.

Paul,
Jeff Murphy, Johnson Estate Winemaker, enjoys dry wines. I know he is a big fan of Austrian wine and that is reflected in his treatment of wines at Johnson.
