WTN: My hero

by Jenise » Tue Oct 11, 2022 3:00 pm

Two days ago I posted this note on Cellar Tracker:

2016 Gramercy Cellars Syrah Walla Walla Valley
Dark fruit, obviously syrah but with a background note of vinegar. Plowed ahead thinking that would taper off; it didn't, and the wine turned cloudy. We dumped it. Purchased from a chain wine store a month ago--a bit older than most so maybe I deserve this but I had faith in this producer and didn't consider it a risk. Oh, and I bought two so I guess I get to go through this again.

And today I received a private message from the winery owner, Greg, asking for my address so that he can replace that bottle for me.

:)

It's so rare; I didn't even approach them. A lovely difference 180 degrees apart from the Bevans of this world.

It’s weird, as I got a replacement bottle from Bevan one time, so…

The winery that made my never buy again list was Reynvaan.

And that's hard for me to imagine; I've had nothing but great experiences with Reynvaan.

So just opened the box from Gramercy; included the replacement syrah for my bad bottle PLUS another of the same from another vintage. This may not be the best syrah in the state (and I'm not saying some of their syrahs don't come close), but as far as winery owners go? Greg Harrison has no equal IMO.
