Another moderate priced Italian weekday drinker. Can't remember what I paid for it, but it's well below $20. Maybe $12?
12.5% ABV 30% Merlot; 30% Cabernet Sauvignon; and 40% Prugnolo Gentile-but 100% Italian.
Stored cold for a year or two. Consumed with my bachelor supper (baked potato, good cheese, tomato sauce)
Not a lot of sweet fruit left-just a bit of black cherry. Definitely some mouth puckering acidity. Drying tannins on the finish. Nice dark leather-but there doesn't seem to be much oak on the palette (again-cheap wine means less expensive production and no awful oak?) Lots of black sweet tobacco. All the nice Italian things, but the Noble Bordeaux Varietals contribute a lovely lovely savoriness. It doesn't taste like Bordeaux at all, but it doesn't taste like Chianti,. either
Very nice daily drinker. Solid *** 1/2 to **** stars considering the price and value.
