More liggerhopf from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Zweigelt is the most widely planted red grape in Austria. It is a cross between St.Laurent & Blaufrankisch. It was developed about 1922 by Fritz Zweigelt at the KlosterNeuberg Federal Institute and originally called Rotberger. Because of LenzMoser, the name was changed to Blauer Zweigelt. Because of Zweigelt's enthusiastic embracing of Naziism in the late '30's, there is a movement afoot to ditch that name & return it to Rotberger. I guess Austria has their woke culture as well.

I've never been very fond of the Zweigelts I've tried. They lack structure & show little high-toned character to my palate. A grape probably best tossed on the dustbin of history.
