2010 Karlsmuhle Kaseler Nies`chen R Spatlese Mosel.
Lovely dinner party with some wine geeks.....Chinese poached chicken and a lovely Chinese roasted duck and sausage. I noted duck prices have rocketed in my area and birds are smaller. The fully flavoured sausage was great with a thirst quenching Lambrusca from Lini Oreste.
The Karlsmuhle was a birthday gift a while back from the owner of my fave store downtown Ed Fung. SC, 7.5% alc, AP13-11, guess around $30 Cda.
Light gold in color, big aromatics, perfect match for the birds. Green apple on the nose, peach, lime zest, honey and various sweet spice. V gd acidity great length, still age-worthy for about 2 more years.
2020 Shut the Gate Blossom 24 Grs Riesling Clare Valley.
Brought from land of Oz by a new friend Ren who has just arrived in Alberta with his Canadian wife Natasha. Happy easy drinking riesling, lemon, lime, could be a nice house wine.
I must add that a recent Yakitori dinner our group held, he brought along 2 bottles of the 2007 Grosset Springvale Watervale Riesling.A very generous thought acknowledged by all. I was a huge fan years ago, found some hidden away in a closed restaurant (I paid $25 a bottle!!).
No sign of oxidesed notes, lemon lime so smoth. Light gold color and at its peak now. Wonderful freshness and fruit definition one of the best finishes ever! Ren noted $120 Aus at the cellar door. 2 botles underly his generosity.
