WTN: Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2009

by Jay Labrador » Thu Sep 29, 2022 8:29 am

Another Prado Enea with a dodgy cork. Had to use a Durand to get it out in one piece. Decanted 3 hours before dinner. A very slight brown at the edge but the core is still opaque and purple. Lovely nose - spices, lots of black pepper, and Fox's blackcurrant boiled sweets. Soft, very rich and mouth filling. Sweet, ripe berries, and a little coffee. Dried fruit (raisin and prune) comes and goes. Just enough acidity to balance the sweetness. Dryish finish and good length. Perfect wine for a hearty dish. Good to go (at least with the 3 hour decant), but still an adolescent. More hedonistic than the more classically structured '04, but still, a beautiful drink. Must buy more!
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Thanks for the update as well as the heads up about the cork. I’ll be prepared when I get around to opening one!

Thanks for the tasting note. I have some 2015 Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva. Looks like I'm in for a bit of a wait.
