The Italians revere their old wines and charge silly prices for them even when they are long defunct, but the fact is that many Italian wines have excellent ageability. This is one of them.

Made after the DOCG rules changes, from 100% Sangiovese, it has become pale garnet in colour, and retains a good fruit based nose with a strawberry overtone and some fine tannins remaining. Good length and impeccable balance, still pleasure to drink. With time in the glass, the fruit seems more like raspberry than strawberry and it adds some spice notes to it. Good.

1997 was a really great year for CC. I think I still have a couple of bottles downstairs.
