1998 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (9/10/2022)
Decided to open my last bottle, and really enjoyed it. Dusty cherry fruit, a little roadside dust and saddle leather - the quintessential Chateauneuf experience. Very easy to drink, as the tannins have mellowed to near invisibility. A compelling wine from first sip to last.

The '98 vintage is so special.

Sadly, the 98 is conspicuously absent from my cellar, drunk some time ago. I didn't have a lot as it was hard to find here in those days.

I go through an inner thought exercise every time I mentally compare the 1998 with the 1995 vintage. With some wines, the latter was also superb.

I'll have to see if Jenise has the same wines in th 98 vintage - would be interesting to compare the two vintages on some of them.

I've had amazingly good luck with aged CNduP, David - right back to 1989 which is generally almost Burgundian now. Your bottle sounds delightful and just what I would expect.

I like ‘98 a whole lot more than ‘95. Traded away most of my ‘95s several years ago for ‘98s and ‘01s.
