1. Catherine le Goeuil AC: Cotes du Rhone Blanc (13%; 1/3'rd Roussanne/GrenacheBlanc/Clairette; KermitLynch Imprts/Berkeley) Cairanne/Vacluse 2018: Med.light gold color; light earthy/stony lightly floral/carnations/GB rather quiet/low-key gentle nose; lightly tart rather earthy/stony/bit mineral some appley/fruit/floral/carnations/GB/bit honeysuckle slight tangy/metallic bit austere flavor; med.long rather earthy/stony/chalky light appley/floral/carnations rather quiet finish; does not speak very strongly of Rouss/GB but more of Clairette; could probably use a good shot of Viognier for an aromatic lift; pleasant enough White Rhone but just that, nothing more; the Guigal CdR Blanc blows this away. $19.00 (KK)

Jaramillo Otono Glow NM WW (12.5%; www.JaramilloVineyards.com; SauvBlanc + Malvasia; 10 days skin contact, lees stirring) Belen 2021: Med.dark gold color; strong VM/phenolic/resiny/cidery some herbal/SB/stony/earthy rather interesting if quiet nose; quite tart/tangy rather tannic/bitey/very austere some VM/resiny/very phenolic bit earthy almost no fruit flavor; long very tart/tangy/acidic very austere/quite tannic little fruit finish; an interesting nose but fiercely tannic/astringent on the palate; rather painful to drink; might actually age into something interesting in 4-6 yrs but rather a gamble. $31.00 (KK)

1. This Jaramillo is, to my knowledge, the first VinoMacerati/skin contact white made in NM. They made it w/ no experience or advice & it sorta shows that. With only 10 days of skin-contact, I was surprised at how fiercely tannic on the palate it was. It simple needs more fruit and less tannins.
JerryBurd at BlackMesaWnry is making his first skin-contact white, as we speak. From PinotGrigio he grows on his estate in Alcade. I suggested he try the Stekar Slovene Sivi Pinot as a good example of what is possible.
