by TomHill » Mon Aug 29, 2022 2:52 pm

Tried these two over the weekend:
1. CambriaEstateWnry Chard Katherine'sVnyd/SantaMariaVlly/SantaBarbaraCnty (14.1%; www.CambriaWines.com) Katherine Jackson; V&B by CambriaWnry/SantaRosa 2020: Med.gold color; strong perfumed melony/ripe/Chard/spicy some perfumed talc/chalky some toasty/Fr.oak bit complex attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy rather rich/lush balanced strong almondy/melony/Chard/spicy light pineapply/ripe some toasty/Fr.oak/pencilly balanced flavor; very long strong melony/Chard/ripe/almondy/spiced apple compote fairly rich/lush balanced finish; a spiciness that suggests SantaMariaVlly; a nice Chard at a very fair price, the equivalent of many a $30-$40 Chard; performs above its pay grade & rather nice for a commodity wine. $19.00 (SFW&S)

2. Paysen Chard Jack'sHillVnyd/MontereyCnty (13.5%; www.IBrandWinery.com) P&B by I.Brand & Family/Salinas/monterey 2021: Med.gold color; strong melony/Chard/celery seed/classic Monterey Chard bit herbal light pencilly/Fr.oak rather interesting nose quite tart/tangy/brisk strong Monterey Chard/melony/celery seed/herbal light pencilly/oak slight mineral bit honeyed quite interesting flavor; very long/lingering strong Monterey Chard/melony/celery seed/herbal light pencilly/Fr.oak finish; a brisk wirey/sinewy Chard that speaks strongly of Monterey Cnty; performs well above its pay grade. $20.00 (SFW&S)

More gistershaab from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. The Cambria was one that got a 94 score from Galloni, which was a pretty high score for such an inexpensive wine. He was, of course, dead wrong. Interesting that Cambria Wnry is 300 miles north of Cambria. This is, of course, a Jackson Family Estates wnry.

2. Found this Paysan on the shelf at Susan's on Sat. I don't think Ian's wines have ever been brought into NM before, so was surprised to find it. They also had the I.Brand regular Chard as well, but I didn't try that one. Yet.

So was Galloni 85 points wrong or 90 points wrong? You seemed to enjoy it.
