WTN: Good cheap CdR

Alain Jaume Reserve Grand Veneur Cotes-du-Rhone, 2004. 13.5% alcohol, $9.99, 80/20 mix of grenache/syrah. Imported by Kysela Pere et Fils.

Garnet red color. Nose is dark fruit with a bit of smoke to it. In the mouth, it's all grenache, with spicy strawberry-cherry fruit, some sour acidity, mild dusty tannins. Very nicely balanced, medium-bodied, with decent length and complexity.

Overall, a very nice weekday wine that significantly overachieves for its price.

Another great CDR I have found here in Oregon is Dom. L'Ameillaud. It also sells for less than $10 and has wonderful concentration. The importer is Louis Dressner.

Thanks for the tip, Michael - anything from Dressner is worth looking into. Just wish we got more of his stuff here in Sacramento.
