WTN: Two Blondes and a red head

by Jenise » Fri Jul 29, 2022 3:37 pm

Enjoyed outside last night with friends:

2016 Andrew Will Two Blondes Vineyard Yakima Valley Red Bordeaux Blend
60% Merlot, the rest the usual suspects. PnP. Plummy dark fruit, cassis and chocolate. Noticeable oak even though only 25% new. Did not find the structure needed for long-term cellaring, though there's no secondary development yet and it's good now. Probably best in 3-5 years.

2019 Familia Bastida Tempranillo La Mancha
Old school, rustic and full-bodied, very young/slightly grapey, needs more time to knit together, but in fact quite enjoyable for about $15 US (purchased in British Columbia).

His son, the actual 'Will' in the name, has taken over the winemaking from his dad Chris Camarda. He's got a deft hand. Where the wines had gotten a bit off course while Chris grieved the death of his wife, they're not ony back on course but better than ever now.

Oh, and a p.s.: WA wines beyond the usual suspects don't often get high critics scores, but this one got a '84 from John Gilman who best I can tell doesn't pass out fawning over-achievers.
