WTN: Cortese and Spark II

by David M. Bueker » Mon Jul 25, 2022 7:48 pm

I am reusing a title because Joni Mitchell came back and performed last weekend. So emotional to see her do that. Wish I could have been there in person.

2017 Idlewild Cortese Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (7/25/2022)
Only been several months since I last had this, but my gosh this bottle blows me away. The textural richness carries the flavors like a perfect serving plate. Spice, pear liqueur with herb accents, and a saline finish are all wrapped up in a cozy blanket created by the partial skin ferment. It’s comfort food as wine, brothy and filling, and making me crave another sip. This has been the best wine I have drunk in 2022, no question.

Best wine so far of 2022???? Wow.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Yep. That was my gut reaction after about three sips, and nothing changed it over the ensuing two hours.
