Had these two last night at DinDin:
1. Carlisle TheDerivative d/dx SonomaCnty WW (13.9%; 47% Semillon+ 37% Muscadelle/14% Colombard/2% Palomino; 385 cs) 2019: Light gold color w/ a ton of tiny bubbles; fairly strong classic Semillon/figgy/bit green olive slight chalky/perfumed talc attractive fragrant nose; bit soft fairly rich/lush classic Semillon/figgy/green olive/fig newton very light pencilly/oak bit pefumed talc pretty classic Semillon flavor; very long soft/ripe classic Semillon/figgy/green olive slight perfumed talc/chalky finish; lots of figgy/Semillon character but not the bracing acidity of HunterVlly/McLarenVale Semillon; should improve over the next few yrs but not a long ager.

Idlewild TheBird Flora&Fauna Red MendoCnty RW (12.8%; 60% Dolcetto/35% Barbera/5% Nebbiolo) 2017: Med.dark color; strong Barbera/spicy/peppery light Dolcetto/grapey/black cherry somewhat PiemonteseBarbera nose; rather tart/tangy bit lean/metallic strong spicy/Barbera/peppery bit Dolcetto/grapey light pencilly/oak some Piemontese red attractive flavor w/ modest tangy tannins; very long strong Barbera/spicy/dried Italian herbs/peppery some grapey/Dolcetto finish w/ some gritty/chewey tannins; a solid Calif Barbera w/ some Piemontese character; still rather tannic/rough & needs 2-6 yrs of age yet

Still have 2 of the 2017 Bird. Will hold off opening them!

We opened one of the new Birds in April: VERY grapey. For me, undrinkable. Let me know when they're ready. :wink:

Undrinkable? Really?

I find them a little raw for about 12 months post release, but not so much beyond that.

Need to check my notes. Yep…when it came out in 2019 I said it needed time to settle in. Interestingly I have not had it since then. New vintages come too quickly!
