Sue brought this wine from her cellar to share at our Pig+Fig tasting a few weeks ago:
1. Guigal Cote-Rotie Cotes Brune et Blonde (12.5%) 1983: Med.color w/ some browning; strong very roasted/smokey/smoked meats/espresso classic NRhone/smokey/olive tapenade little fruit quite complex pencilly bit oxidative beautiful nose; lightly tart classic mature C-R roasted/smokey/olive tapenade espresso/smoked meats little fruit bit oxidative slightly drying out/tannic very complex flavor w/ light but drying tannins; very long/lingering very strong smokey/olive tapenade/smoked meats/roasted classic mature C-R little fruit very delicate/ethereal quite complex finish w/ light drying tannins; a beautiful complex fully mature & then some C-R.

1. A classic example of a fully mature C-R. The fruit had pretty much fled the scene & I suspect I would have liked it a lot better 10 yrs ago when it still had some fruit remaining. But after an hour open in the decanter, they wine was very dried out & astringent and pretty much shot. But, initially, it was still alive.

Wow, I remember enjoying that wine very much in the 1980s and '90s.
