1997 Clos de Vougeot, Hudelot-Noellat
I opened this last night to celebrate my birthday. The brick-red color betrays this wine's age. Both the aromas and palate reveal ample, complex red fruit with a touch of smoke. Long finish. Tannins are fully resolved. There is a bit of acidity sticking out--you notice this while drinking it on its own but it's not noticeable when the wine is accompanied by food. It may be starting to dry out. This is a classic example of what Clos de Vougeot (and grand cru red Burgundy in general) ought to be, but so often is not. Triple Curly with just a touch of Moe.
