WTN: Anniversary wines

by Jenise » Wed Jun 15, 2022 7:51 pm

On the patio before dinner:

2008 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs
Fantastic melange of yellow fruits that changed every five minutes, bright and creamy at the same time, opulent texture. I could go on all day but to sum it up quickly: this is one of the best champagnes I've ever had.

An asparagus salad followed. Then, with roast beef and horseradish mashed potatoes:

1996 Château Gruaud Larose St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend
Cork came out in six pieces but dry, and the wine was sound though, possibly, a tad lighter due to cork condition. Decanted 90 minutes. Typical St. Julien with plummy fruit and cigar box notes, velvet texture and good finish. Came alive with roast beef.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I know. A friend arranged this purchase about 18 months ago--$125 ea. Now twice that.
