WTN: More BottomFeeding @ WholeFoods: UpperLeft Syrah '18...

by TomHill » Sun Jun 05, 2022 4:04 pm

Tried this cheapie from WholeFoods last night:
1. UpperLeft Syrah ColumbiaVlly (14.5%; VintageUpperLeftWines.com) Hal Landvoigt/Vintage UpperLeft/WallaWalla 2018: Very dark/near black color; very strong ripe/blackberry/boysenberry/spicy slight herbal/peppery/licorice/pungent bit complex quite attractive nose; lightly tart/tangy strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe Syrah/spicy bit peppery/licorice/herbal light toasty/oak classic WashState Syrah flavor w/ modest chewey tannins; very long lightly tart strong blackberry/boysenberry/spicy Syrah/licorice/peppery bit toasty/oak finish w/ light tanninc bite; could use a few more yrs of age; speaks strongly of WashState Syrah & as good as many $25-$30 WashState Syrahs; not a profound Syrah but has more interest than most at this price point. $9.00 (WF)

1. This is a wnry I've not heard of before. It appears to be a negociant operation for inexpensive wines. Never heard of its winemaker, either. My first encounter w/ their wines. They also make Chard/Merlot/Cab.

Haven't heard of it either; wonder if they're shipping it all out of state. Doesn't sound too bad for $9.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
