WTN: 2014 Schäfer-Fröhlich Stromberg

by Rahsaan » Sun Jun 05, 2022 4:18 am

Recently had a few bottles of 2014 Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Stromberg and it is very very good. I cannot claim comprehensive experience with SF or with this vineyard, but this bottling has been perfectly delicious right now. Approachable and open but still firm poised and nuanced. Ripe fruit, but still a nice bitter herbal riesling stalk edge to the flavors. It all works so well.

Last night's bottle was a perfect match with a dorade filled with bärlauch pesto, accompanied by spinach, green and white spargel and basmati rice. These are the moments of contentment.

That’s a wine ai have yet to try. The SF lineup has gotten so broad, that it’s hard to keep track. Then there’s the fact that the Kupfergrube GG is my pet favorite, so it gets most of my SF dry wine attention.

2014 was rather poorly regarded as a vintage, but as usual the best producers made out fine.

Yes, too many options is the usual deal with my wine story!

I hear that SF did particularly well in 2014, and for whatever reason, there was a good amount of this bottling available in Berlin, at a very fair price. So that's what I drank!
