WTN: 1999 von Schubert Maximin Grünhauser QbA

Well I would never guess that this is going on 23 years from the vintage. Bright yellow color, lime leaf aromas with only a hint of honey, and on the palate gentle sweetness, citrus, hay and saline minerality. The longer it’s open the fresher it gets. It won’t ever be confused with one of the single vineyard Kabinetts (my favorite Grunhaus wines), but for a bottle that cost $15 when it came out, and still has years in its future, this sure has out kicked its coverage.

Nice work. So does this mean you are just starting your Grunhaus 99s? Slowly but surely making your way up the ladder of bottlings?!

More seriously, quite a testament to the glory of wine. I wonder if the current entry level iterations will be as long lived.

Pretty much. I peek in every once in a while, and there's still so much upside.

As for current vintages, who knows. The basic QbA is even in existence anymore in the same form, so that one is out. The Kabinetts certainly seem like they are still built to last from what I have tasted. Unfortunately there is a huge gap in my Grünhaus collection from 2002-2010 (other than a couple of random bottles) due to their terrible distribution at the time.
