The rains have started but in the last few days we reverted back to the brutal summer heat. Good excuse to open up a Beaujolais for lunch.

Violet. Nice nose - red berries, sweet spices, and a hint of earthiness. Cherry, strawberry, raspberry. Soft, open, juicy. Refreshing acidity. Slightly peppery finish. Surprised and somewhat alarmed at the 14.5% alcohol. Certainly didn't feel like it. Pop and pour and drink now. Good summer lunch wine with a pastrami sandwich.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
