WTN: Never Say Never Again

  • 2019 Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Muscat Like You Never! - USA, California, Central Coast, Chalone (5/6/2022)
When there is only one bottle there is no “right time” to open it. So tonight’s the night. Opened directly from the cellar, so not too cool, and then left to sit for an hour, small glass poured. Aromatics say Muscat. An hour later they shout Muscat! Two hours later it’s MUSCAT!!! Yet there is also an foundational earthiness that provides a counterpoint to the soaring floral, a tether. The earthiness becomes umami savory on the palate. The interplay of “sweet” fruit and savory notes builds and builds with each sip. The more time the wine is open, the more intense it becomes. Building and building, the crescendo never comes. How high can it go?

Every other Muscat I have tried lives in the stratosphere. This one has a dual existence - spiritual and corporeal.
