Had these two whites Sat night w/ Susan:
1. Dom.NicolasGonin Altesse IGP: Isere-Balmes Dauphinoises (12%: www.Vins-Nicolas-Gonin.com; MFW Wine Co/NY; Organic grapes) SaninChef/France 2019: Med.dark gold color; strong very fragrant Alpine white flowers/floral/edelweis some perfumed talc/mineral almost R/floral somewhat complex beautiful nose; quite tart/tangy bright/floral/Alpine flowers/edelweis some perfumed talc/chalky/mineral lithe/sinewy some complex slight metallic/steely lovely flavor; very long/lingering fairly mineral/stony rather floral/Alpine white flowers bright/spicy/lithe some complex finish; a beautiful classic Alpine white at a very good price. $31.00 (AV)

Francois Rousset-Martin Cuvee du Professeur Sous-Roche Savignin Ad'OP: Cotes du Kura (13%; MeBalP; Lot LSR16; KermitLynchImprts/Berkeley) Nevy sur Seille 2016: Deep gold/burnished bronze some cloudy color; very fragrant floral/Savignin/bit old GWT-like fairly resiny/skin-contact/VM/phenolic bit woodsy/earthy/damp leaf pile/Kansas hay mow/bit herbal quite complex nose; fairly tart/tangy/tannic rather phenolic/VM/vey resiny some earthy/herbal/composted leaves/orangey/Kansas hay mow some floral/old GWT-like slightly nutty/oxidative complex flavor w/ some tangy tannins; rather tangy/tart rather tannic fairly rich/lush bit off-dry rather VM/resiny/phenolic rather floral/Savignin/old GWT-like bit oxidative complex finish w/ light tannins; lots of VM/skin-contact character and a bit of old GWT-like/pungent/oxidative character; a rather interesting Jura white but way overpriced at $56.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Altesse, also known as Rousette, is a variety that probably originated in the Savoie, those its exact origins are not known. This was a classic example of that variety. If you put your ear into the glass, you can hear off in the distance Julie Andews singing "the hills are alive...".

2. Savignin: Also know in Germany as Traminer. Mostly found in the Jura where it is often used to make Vin de Paille.

I wouldn't call the Jura Alpine either for wine character or for geology and geography. Nice sounding wines though. I really must get to know better the wines of Savoie.
