WTN: d'Chemistry

1983 Sauternes, Chateau d'Yquem

Absolutely fantastic in every way. Beautiful gold color. Amazingly fragrant aromas that jump out of the glass to greet you. Staggering complexity with aromas of fruits, flowers, caramel, all in perfect harmony and producing a whole that is far greater than its parts. On the palate, a beautiful texture. Intense flavors with astounding complexity, in perfect balance with sweetness that is intense without being cloying, and just the right amount of acidity to carry everything. It all blossoms out into a perfect peacock finish that lasts for minutes. The whole experience leaves you wanting more, but be careful. I was greedy, had a second glass, and wound up with a sugar high for the next hour or so.

This is d'Yquem at the very top of its game. Triple Curly with an extra Woo! Woo! Woo!

Sounds divine. I still have an '88. One of those wines that no occasion ever seems good enough for.

I also have some '88. When I opened one last year, it was superb. But IMO the '83 is even better.

No hurry to open either of them, BTW, but if you do you won't regret it.

Sugar high or alcohol drunkenness? Both could have been in effect!

Yes, most likely synergy between the two.
