WTN: MaximinGrunhaus Schloss Riesling '20...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Apr 19, 2022 4:06 pm

Picked this up out in Bakersfield last week:
1. Weingut Maximin Grunhaus Schloss Riesling dry Q Mosel (VDP.Gutswein; A.P.Nr. 3 536 014 1521; 11.5%; www.MaximinGrunhaus.De) Familie von Schubert/Ruwertal/Mosel 2020: Med.dark gold color w/ mesmerizing tiny bubbles that dissipate; beautiful classic Mosel R/floral/mango rather slatey/steely/mineral very aromatic nose; near dry rather steely/flinty/slatey/mineral very strong perfumed/floral/R/mango classic Mosel R very slightly off-dry flavor; very long/lingering strong aromatic/R/floral/mango strong mineral/steely/flinty beautifuil finish; a classic Mosel R w/ just enough RS to take the edge off the acidity; beautiful Mosel at a great price & should go out another 4-8 yrs. $22.00 (Imbibe)

1. I've been going to Bakersfield/Oildale frequently to take care of my recently deceased brother's estate. The Imbibe wine shop is one of the high points of my trips out there. But the food??? Meh. Recently ate at one of their top Basque restaurants, WoolCatchers. Dreadful food that was so incredibly bland. Basque food can be sorta spicy. This food had no flavor whatsoever, save the salt that I added. Can you say Pablum?

And I thought I had seen/tried all the MG wines.

It’s the new name for the entry level wine, what was previously ‘Monopol’.
