WTN: Nigl’s Nest

  • 2013 Nigl Riesling 1ÖTW Privat Pellingen - Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal (4/1/2022)
Nigl does not get the attention it deserves. This wine is all about precision and electricity, couple with grace. It’s a lime and mineral cocktail, connected to a live 400 volt wire. Early days yet for this wine, which resembles the dry Alsatian Rieslings of a long ago ere, when dry meant dry, and immortality was all but certain.

Yup, David... Nigl doesn't get the respect they deserve.

Heck, I don’t give the wines the attention they deserve. That’s largely because they NEED time. This bottle was just getting into the zone.

I realize you're describing a riesling, but the best gruner I ever had was a Nigl. A '99 that I bought in L.A. from a Bay-area based riesling fanatic, famous for his newsletter which I can't recall the name of, and opened about ten years later. Rarely see the brand at retail.
