by TomHill » Thu Mar 31, 2022 2:08 pm

Tried these two last night at dinner:
1. Carlisle GrunerVeltliner SteinerVnyd/SonomaMtn/SonomaCnty (13.6%; 150 cs) Windsor 2019: Med.light yellow color; very strong GV/very white pepper/very floral/gardenias quite spicy/cardamon slight perfumed talc/OldSpice aftershave lotion some complex beautiful nose; lightly tart/tangy fairly rich/lush very strong GV/white pepper/floral/gardenias light perfumed talc/OldSpice/perfumed rather spicy/mineral some complex flavor; very long/lingering rich very strong GV/white pepper/perfumed/OldSpice slight mineral/perfumed talc finish; probably the best & most authentic GV made in Calif w/ loads of GV/white pepper; would go mano a mano w/ a good Smaargd from the Wachau; great price at $25.00

2. Bedrock Syrah Calif (14.5%) 2019: Very dark color; very strong blackberry/Syrah/ripe/boysenberry fairly Rhonish/roasted/whole-cluster/peppery some toasty/oak bit c-c/black pepper quite complex beautiful nose; lightly tart/tangy fairly rich/mouthfilling very strong w-c/Rhonish/peppery some c-c/black pepper strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy/peppery light toasty/oak fairly complex flavor w/ some tangy tannins; very long/lingering strong blackberry/peppery/Syrah some Rhonish/w-c light toasty/oak bit complex finish w/ modest tannins; speaks strongly of w-c/Rhonish Syrah; a lovely Rhonish Calif Syrah that will get better over the next few yrs; a steal at $20.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Ystrday was MikeOfficer's BD, so had to crack out one of my most favorite Carlisles, his Gruner. I think it is easily the best Gruner being made in all Calif. A fitting way to celebrate Mike's #60.

2. Year in & year out, the Bedrock Calif Syrah is one of my greatest QPR buys. I should buy more of it. But it feels like I'm ripping someone off at that price.

The 2020 Bedrock California Syrah also feels like highway robbery.
