WTN: Two Reds @ DinDin...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Mar 28, 2022 3:24 pm

Had these two last night:
1. Christian Tschida Engel auf Erden Pink Maceration Rose Wine Neusiedlersee/Burgenland (12.0%; "Angel on Earth"; 100% CabernetFranc Natural Wine; www.TschidaIllmitz.At; Jenny & Francoise Slctns/NY; Trocken; Ungelfiltert) Christian Tschida/Illmitz/Seegasse/Austria 2020: Med.red color; rather earthy/loamy slight plummy/boysenberry some funky/unclean rather strange nose; quite tart bit steely/metallic bit lean/austere/hard quite earthy/loamy/dusty/root cellar some herbal/CabFranc slight plummy bit funky flavor w/ light tangy tannins; med.long rather earthy/loamy/herbal/CabFranc root cellar quite tangy/tart rather rough/raspy finish w/ light raspy tannins w/ very slight funky/natty/unclean far in the aftertaste; lots of earthy/loamy/CabFranc character w/ very slight natty/funky character; way overpriced at $47.00 (AV)

2. Land of Saints CentralCoast PinotNoir (13.6%; www.loswines.com) Land of Saints Wine Co/Orcutt 2020: Med.light ruby red color; quite attractive very fragrant bright/cherry/PN/spicy slight herbal/earthy some pencilly/toasty/Fr.oak lovely perfumed nose; bit soft/lush strong cherry/PN/spicy bit earthy/dusty light toasty/Fr.oak bit Burgundian attractive/forward flavor w/ light gentle tannins; long bright/cherry/PN light earthy/dusty some toasty/Fr.oak finish w/ light tannins; a pleasant/drinkable glou/glou expression of PN at a more than fair price. $22.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Tschida: A Jenny&Francoise Slctn, who specialize in natural wines. Their wines tend to be on the funky/natty side. In this case, it was quite minimal. But to call it a rose wine is quite a stretch.
______________
2. Land of Saints: A 3-winemaker operation which includes AngelaOsbourne/A Tribute to Grace. Not seen this (rather garish) label before so wanted to try it.

Tried the Tschida ystrday after it had been open for two days.
It had developed a dreadful wet-dog fur/mousy/sour aftertaste that made the wine undrinkable. Natural wines strike again.
