Maipo Valley.
Decanted an hour before supper.
Still quite dark red, almost black, at ten years of age.
Cherry, chocolate, tobacco and yeast on the nose.
Silky smooth in the mouth, quite charred, plummy, black cherry fruit, black olives, cedar, earthy, dark chocolate, herbs (basil and thyme), creamy.
A very well balanced wine: rich, plush and creamy, but built on a somewhat lean structure, good acidity and a streak of not unpleasant bitterness throughout.
A long, creamy finish with chocolate-covered cherries.
A great drinking experience and matched quite well against a hearty, homemade beef and barley soup (more a stew really) with dumplings.
