Shared this at our Pinot tasting last night:
1. Holdredge Grace'sCuvee PinotGris LateHrvst/RRV (SaH: 36 Brix; RS: 10.0%) 2005: Very dark/ some browning color w/ lots of hazy film collected on the inside of the btl; very intense botrytis/ripe peachy/apricotty bit oxidative slight earthy rather complex nose; quite sweet bit tart intense botrytis/apricotty/peachy bit oxidative/earthy complex flavor; very long/lingering very sweet intense botrytis/apricotty/peachy slight earthy bit oxidative very ripe complex finish; a pretty classic example of a Calif heavily botrytized that is all about the botrytis and nothing else; in that sense the wine is not really very complex as it's totally dominated by the botrytis; probably go on like this forever.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This wine was pretty much like most Calif heavily botrytized. The smell & taste are totally dominated by the botrytis and it pretty much obscures everything else. Because of the high RS, it will probably go on like this for yrs, maybe another 10-20 yrs, afore the raisened character starts to come out.
John used to make a number of other wines (Syrah/Zin/Schioppettino) under his Oscuro label. From the WebSite, he appears to have abandoned that effort. Now it looks like he makes strictly only PinotNoir from a bunch of different vnyds.
John used to hang out here on WB some. Haven't seen him around in these here parts for quite some time. I always enjoyed his posts and the rather acerbic humor they displayed.
