- 2018 Matthiasson Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley - USA, California, Napa Valley (3/1/2022)
Decanted for two hours prior to serving, four hours would have been better. The last few sips of my second glass were the best, as the fruit had deepened, and integrated the tannins to a more seamless whole. Not too surprising given the youth of the wine, but lesson to be heeded if I open another anytime soon. Midweight, sleek and a little bit racy, it’s a free safety of a wine that catches up to you and lays a pretty good whack on the palate. In the red fruit rather than black fruit spectrum, it’s the style of Cabernet that I prefer.
